Q & A
1. Who are your greatest musical influences?
Yolanda Adams, Dottie Peoples, Mary-Mary, Anita Baker, Vickie Winans, Whitney Houston, Kim Burrell, so many I can’t name them all.
2. This career started for you at 40. What brought you to music at this point?
I’ve always had a love for music, God just touched me one day and told me it was my turn to be used for His purpose. It doesn’t matter how old you are, if God has a plan to use you, he will in his time, not yours. Our schedule is on his time.
3. How have the people in your life reacted to the launch of your music career?
My family and close friends I grew up with always knew how much I love music; they really believe in me and are proud. But some people just look at me like I’m just dreaming; they’re thinking such and such can sing better than that. I questioned God and said the same thing to myself, God told me, “I didn’t call such and such for this, I called you.” I never questioned it again.
4. What kind of experiences did you have as a singer or musician before you began working on the album?
The experience I has was singing in talent shows and my high school chorus as well as singing in the choir.
5. Tell me about the moment you sat down to write these songs. What was your inspiration?
The moment I sat down to write a song I would pray first, and then start to write. I remember my first song, praying and saying to God: “God I know you want me to write these songs, but who’s going to sing them?” He spoke to me and said “if you write them, surely you will sing them.” From that day on, I would just pray and write what ever was on my heart.
6. As a newcomer to music, what are the most important lessons you learned during the production process?
Be very patient, if one thing doesn’t work try something else. Keep God ahead and in all of your plans.
7. What’s been your greatest challenge so far?
The enemy trying to do all he can to stop me from doing God’s work. Sometimes I would feel I’ve been through the mud all day and all night long, until I say I give up. But God says I can’t give up, to hold on and keep the faith.
8. What’s special about you as an artist? What do you bring to gospel music?
Being a new artist to the Gospel industry I’m bringing the work with my own flavor and in my special way. I am a small town country girl that God wants to use to get his message out. So what do I bring to Gospel Music? Fire that’s shut up in my bones.
9. As an artist, what do you hope to accomplish with your music?
As an artist I hope and pray that people will truly be blessed by the words I speak from my mouth. That mostly the people who are lost in the world will become born again through my message.
10. What is the focus of your music ministry?
The focus on my music ministry is reaching out to the ones who don’t know Christ. I want to work hard at delivering God’s message mostly to them. I know for myself if you haven’t been born again and don’t know Christ, you have no direction. You’re lost.
11. Can you talk about your spiritual relationship with God and how it impacts your music?
I don’t mind sharing the relationship I have with God because I’m not ashamed of him. I truly love the Lord; He is the head of my life, my heart, mind and soul. Every morning I praise Him and thank Him for my life because He is so good to me. He has such an impact on my music; I feel Him in my heart when I’m singing the songs He has given me and it is all for His glory.
12. Is there a reason you don’t currently have a church home? Do you think it impacts your ability to deliver your message to your audience?
I do have a church home; it is the First Baptist Church of Mandrin, Jacksonville FL, with Pastor Gary Williams.
